Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 here at Christ Church. Our team of teachers consists of Mr Douglass, Mr Birleson, Mrs Trim and Mrs Rutt. We also have the wonderful team of TAs: Mrs Single-Bloom, Mrs Creed and Mrs Darling.

Term 4 – This term in Year 6 our topic is entitled ‘Female Explorers… To boldly Go!’ We will look back at primary and secondary sources from a range of periods in history to find out about some of the most famous explorers – and the reasons behind their daunting voyages and travels!

Our latest church visit was a great success as we made bug houses while meeting members of our community. The fact that there were biscuits made the event even sweeter.

One of the latest areas of maths that we have been studying is ratio and proportion. We moved on from using drawn representations such as bar models, to simpler and more efficient methods.

In English, our inspirational text is the Dragon Ark. This has helped us in writing persuasive adverts and informal letters. We have also made links between that and our previous inspirational text, ‘The Land of Neverbelieve’.

In Science, we have been catching up on some of the learning we missed during lockdown as we revisit Rocks. The main aim is to be able to discern between the three main types of rock (sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic) and their properties.

Term 3 – Over the course of the next 5 weeks, our three year 6 classes will be exploring ‘What’s Under the Skin’ with the main focus being: the circulatory system, the digestive system and the respiratory system. Although science will be our lead topic this term, the study of fair trade in geography will also be an exciting avenue which we will explore. The curriculum newsletter underneath gives a more detailed outline of the subjects being covered.

Year 6 Curriculum Newsletter – Term 2

We have been working hard on our DT projects – making toys!

In history, our study of Braford on Avon and how it’s changed over time led us down many interesting avenues. A field trip to see the sights was a must!

Term 1- This term we are unpacking the question ‘Is the Future Bright’ with an in depth study of the causes and impact of climate change. More information on the exciting learning we have planned can be found on our curriculum newsletter below. We have also put the spellings for this term in case you are unable to access Spelling Shed.
