Taster Day – A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today the children have had a great day meeting their new class teacher and for some year groups class changes have enabled them to extend their friendship groups.

As I mentioned last week, we have mixed up the children in current Years 1, 3 and 5 and combined the three Foundation Stage classes into 2 year 1 classes.

Alongside this letter is also the diary dates for the next academic year and a list of which classes have moved to where, plus who the staff will be for September 2018.

Here is a reminder of the welcome meeting dates which were given out last week:

  • Year 1 from September 2018 Monday 16 July @ 6.00pm in Year 1 classrooms
  • Year 2 from September 2018 Thursday 12 July @ 5.00pm in Year 2 classrooms
  • Year 3 from September 2018 Tuesday 17 July @ 6.00pm in Year 3 classrooms
  • Year 4 from September 2018 Monday 23 July @ 5.30pm in Year 4 classrooms
  • Year 5 from September 2018 Tuesday 17 July @ 5.00pm in Year 5 classrooms
  • Year 6 from September 2018 Tuesday 17 July @ 5.00pm in Year 6 classrooms

Sadly at the end of this academic year the school will say farewell to some very experienced and well respected members of staff. Mrs Rachel Sheppard, teacher, will retire after 23 years of loyal service to the school. Mrs Nicky Stannard, teacher, will retire after 26 years of loyal service to the school. Mrs Sarah Baxendale will take up a new appointment after being at the school for 22 years, formerly as a teacher then more recently as an LSA. Miss Lucy Martin, teacher, will take up an appointment back in her hometown of Portsmouth. Lucy has taught in Foundation for the last three years. Mrs Wendy Blankley, teacher, will take up a new post in Wiltshire after 8 years’ service to us. Mrs Pat Amor, cleaner, will retire after 13 years of loyal service. Miss Abigail Lodge, LSA, will take up a teacher training place in London in order to gain qualified teacher status. Mrs Lucy Humble and Mrs Sarah Perry, teachers, will both be taking maternity leave in the new academic year. I am sure you will join me in thanking them all for their hard work and dedication and wish them all well in the future.

New to the school next year will be Mr Tom Plank and Miss Paige Bowyer who will joining Year 5 and Year 2 respectively. We also welcome back Mrs Kate Brown following her year’s sabbatical. We are looking forward to welcoming them into the Christ Church community.

At the end of the day please meet your child’s new teacher in their new classroom area.

Although we still have much to look forward to for the rest of this academic year, I would like to thank you all for your continued support and wish you a good summer break.

Yours sincerely,

Neil Baker
