British Values

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of the pupil has always been at the heart of everything we do at Christ Church.

Whilst we believe this has always been a strength of the school, we have reviewed our provision following the DfE’s requirements s to, `create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote fundamental British values.’

At Christ Church we uphold and teach pupils about British Values which we have defined as;

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • the embracing of all faiths and beliefs

These values are celebrated and reinforced through our programme of SMSC.  They are also taught explicitly throughout the curriculum, particularly in Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE) lessons and Religious Education (RE). However, we believe it is just as important for the children to experience these first-hand through real everyday activities.
