Our learning this term is based around the Shang Dynasty, in Ancient China. We launched our topic by recreating Fu Hao’s tomb, and made inferences about the artefacts buried with her.

We’re also excited to be visiting We the Curious this term, as well as taking a group of Year 5 children to perform at the Forum Theatre in Bath, as part of the West Wilts Dance Festival.

To launch our topic, we built volcano models and used our scientific knowledge from last term to create eruptions using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

Each class has taken part in forest school sessions this term, kindly funded by FOCCS. The children had lots of fun creating dens, completing teamwork challenges and toasting marshmallows on the campfire.

As part of the Into Film Festival, we were lucky enough to visit the Odeon in Bath to watch How to Train Your Dragon. Platform Rail visited Year 5 beforehand, to carry out a workshop about rail safety.

Term 1

This term, we’ve been learning about the Early Islamic Civilization.

We launched our topic by creating models of the Round City of Baghdad, and included features such as the House of Wisdom and the Tigris River.

In our English lessons, we created narratives based on the folk tale, ‘The Caliph and the Stork’. Take a look at some of our fantastic work!

In art, the children explored Islamic artwork, and created their own geometric patterns with Polyblok printing.

During Term 1, a group of Year 5 children attended a dance workshop at the Civic Centre in Trowbridge. In February, we’ll be taking part in the West Wilts Dance Festival at The Forum in Bath.
